The Slap, Flotta

This is my Grt Aunty Kitty (right) with her sister Annie and brother in law Willock (o' the slap) Taken in about 1970 or thereabouts, before the croft was pulled down to make way for the oil terminal. They moved to Gold Hall, which still stands (as a ruin) today. I will post a photo of Gold Hall when I manage to persuade my camera to part with it.

Comments:
Great photo Stuart - reminds me of Chick Chalmers's book of photos of ordinary Orkney folk.

I visited Annie and Willie often when I lived in Flotta but never took a photo of them. This one brought back many memories of wonderful relaxing Sunday afternoons spent with them and sometimes Annie playing a tune on the peerie kirk organ whick stood on the back wall of the living room near the sweetie tin. They had a cat called Nipper.

hi stuart,i see your picture #6542 and wondered if the gentleman is willie sabiston who stayed in one of the flats at andersquoy sheltered housing when we stayed there. my late wife was warden there at that time. willie was a very nice man, who could tell us all about flotta and scapa flow during the war years.
