Orkney musicians Gerbil

Jim 'Pye'Groundwater and Gordon Scott form the turn 'Gerbil', music for all occasions, I'm Hennery the VIII I Am to Baker St.

Comments:

Gerbil played together for 34 years starting in 1972/73 .The first gig was at the Braes Hotel Stromness. The day before Pye had been telling Dennis Tait the proprietor about his naughty cat. Pye's cat had been found fast asleep besides a neighbours fire, unfortunately it had eaten the neighbour's gerbil and two sausages out of the frying pan ."That's it!" said Dennis "We will call you Gerbil"
and so it came to pass.
As Pye says, it could have been worse, we might have been called 'Two Sausages'
As well as playing as Gerbil Pye has also played with the Hamnavoe, Compass and The Four of us & Big Jim. Pye had joined late, the drummer having already paid for a new 'Four Of Us' logo on his drum wasn't wanting to waste good money by having it changed to 'The Five of Us' So it became The Four of Us & Big Jim.
