I wonder if this is Tom Kent as so far as I know he could not drive. My father, Patrick Gorie, used to take him on trips to the country, and for the same reason Captain Irving, of Westbank, St Ola, told of taking Tom on a trip around Stenness and Orphir on the day the German Fleet was scuttled but Tom did not have time to take pictures as he had to be in Kirkwall for an appointment.

The caption doesn't say he's driving the car. In fact, he looks slightly uncomfortable in the driver's role - particularly in his underhand steering-wheel grip.
