Here's the Hoy Head undergoing that dramatic transformation in Kent Marina. Several Orkney lads were engaged in the work.

Hi Ron,
What was the outcome of this major refit. I recently saw the Lyrawa bay converted to a fish farm boat, quite a transformation. Regards------------Allan

Got it Allan, I am reliably informed she is now in Malta towing a hopper for a dredger.
Ron.

Thanks for that Ron. Wonder if there are any pics of her after the conversion?

Was this the Geira originally, the one that came from the Faroes? Was she the first RO-RO on the south isles run?

Hi Jimmy, Was she the Geira from Faroes? I’m afraid don’t know. Was she a RO- RO on south Isles run? The photo was taken by my son Andrew, formerly of Kirkwall now living and working as a shipwright in Ramsgate. Coming across it was quite a surprise to him and rekindled memories of being aboard her many times in Orkney waters. He was also was pleasantly surprised to meet some of his old Kirkwall friends working on it. The information that she is now towing a hopper for a dredger in Malta came from Britt Reid, another Orcadian he met in Ramsgate. If I can learn more I’ll let you know.
Regards, Ron.

I believe the comment on her coming from Shetland will be correct. She was built
in the Faroes, thats really what I meant, words dont always work right for me.
