James Annal

I was able to visit Orkney for the first time in 34 years this year and this picture is part of my aunt Margaret's collection. It shows my Great Grandfather James Annal who was a member of the Kirkwall Pipe Band. I notice that it is taken in the same place as the Tom Kent Band picture No 740. Can anyone tell me when or where it was taken please?

[It's in the garden at the back of Foubister and Bains and where the Tourist Office currently stands on Broad Street, with the Strynd over a wall to the gentleman's left. See picture 1357, picture 2939 and picture 3074. - Steven]

I would like to send a sincere thank you to the Orkney Image Library because I posted a comment about my great grandfather on my dads passing away and I am now in contact with my older brother Donald James Annal Holloway. Over the moon, Reg Annal.

[Delighted to hear that Reg, and thanks on behalf of the Image Library family for your kind words - Steven]
