1937 Coronation Parade in Kirkwall

A parade to celebrate the coronation of King George VI.

The float at the front is the "Rainbow of Promise". More photos of this to follow.

Does anyone recognise the street?

Comments:
i think it looks like the back road from the bottom of tankerness lane up, the trees might have been replaced with the british legion.

I would make a guess at Junction Road, possibly looking towards the south, either at Olaf Place or Baikies Buldings, just cant decide.

On the other hand it could be looking north along Junction Road, taken from where the Legion now is, the large house behind the first lorry being the one that is beside what is now the Empire Chinese.

It is the 2 sets of houses in the top left that is hard to work out. If looking north, then they could be Baikies Buildings, and the 2 storey house that was knocked down to make room for the new library. If its looking south, I cant think what they are.

Any other suggestions?

It's taken from practically the same point as picture #391 of the parade for King George V's Silver Jubilee two years earlier, ie looking down Junction Road (north) from where the Legion is now. On the other side of the street from right to left are what is now the Chinese restaurant, what was the late Ian Swanney's house, the foot of the old Orcadian office property, the foot of what was Dr Peace's garden (was it Dr Peterkin's in 1937?), and the site of the government buildings.
