Comments:
I've just come across this almost unbearably poignant picture. A sister nicely posed, touching her fine looking brothers with pride and affection - nothing particularly remarkable, but as sharp a reminder as any of the terrible waste that comes with war. And not just of lives lost in combat but of lives that can never be, because motherhood is denied to so many young women.
I had a go at enhancing the image, trying to bring out Alice's features a bit, but without enough success to make it worth uploading the result. So I'll dry my eyes and move on.
