Such fond memories of this old boat which served Shapinsay for seventy one years, having been built on the island in 1893. She was a very fine sight for us schoolkids, waiting at the Kirkwall pier on a Friday night to take us home for the weekend. In fact it was after one of those trips that she sank at the Shapinsay pier, in 1964.

My great grandfather John Bews of Strathore, Shapinsay had a brother William, who served his apprenticeship working on the 'Iona' ,he then moving to Kirkwall entering the mill-building trade and working for Messrs John Scarth.
