I received this medal in the sixties. I have been investigating its history. The only Mowat I can find of significance is a man who was headmaster of the first parochial school in Holm. He came from Caithness. I found this in the Graemeshall documents. He was in post for three years but was ousted as he didn't get on with the minister if I remember correctly.

It resembles the former Orkney and Zetland Association dux medal, but the longship is missing eight oars each side. Obviously a skeleton crew. Nice thing to have though, in these days of 'all shall have prizes' (or none).
