Comments:
My father, Douglas Robertson, spent a lot of time at Ingsay as a schoolboy with his friend Tommy Chalmers - a nephew of Mrs Harvey, Quoydandy (nee Olaf Tait, of Ingsay). I think that would be one of this William Tait's daughters. We also knew George Tait when he farmed at The Banking near Oldmeldrum when Billy, Barrie and Ingrid were teenagers and visited Ingsay in George and Lillian's days there.
Many happy memories of fine people.

Ian,was there a Barbara in your family from Stronsay connected to the above William ? My great grandfather's (James Tait) sister Margaret Tait talked about her cousin Barbara from Stronsay.

Good to hear from you Sheena, my father still talks about Dougie Robertson very fondly. My father Barry retired from the farm 8 years ago but is still involved most days. He has very fond memories of the time they spent at the Banking and we visit the area regularly.

Ian and Carolyn, we'll all be related alright, nearly every Tait in Orkney will be. My cousin in Australia researched the Taits and told me of eight Tait brothers in Caithness some coming to Orkney and others to America,my other cousin in Canada hooked up to some off them, she said theres thousands of them!

I am currently writing monthly articles for the Orkney Farmer magazine based on W S Tait's diaries. The articles contain more information on our family history.
