A sailing ship painted on a glass trawl float.
I think these were painted by a man from North Ronaldsay.

Could this be the work of Willie Thompson of Neven, North Ronaldsay? See Life in the Orkney Islands - photographs by Chick Chalmers (1979) page 46.

Yes, this sailing ship was painted by my grandfather Willie Thomson from Neven, see also picture #25988. He painted hundreds of sailing ships on floats, various shapes of bottles, paper and even flower pots. Many of the people that visited him always left with the gift of one of his paintings. Today they have been put on china mugs and plates for the benefit of the North Ronaldsay Trust.
