Took this photo wae me Kodak instamatic 36 1972 stromness pier on route to Hoy for a 2 day school trip. Me Aunties name is Evelyn so thats why i took the photo.

Wid that be old railway track along the edge oh the pier and does any body know where it came from?

Im not saying this is the same rail line but I remember back in 69 we took up all the railway line from about Lyness which was quite a considerable amount and If I remember rightly I'm sure it was sold off locally

As far as I know the rail track was around the South pier from when it was refurbished & extended in the 50s. I would say this photo looks like it was taken in the early days of the Oil Industry in Orkney possibly 74 because the ship on the North Pier is one of Jackson Marine's "Moon" boats that carried pipe to the Lay Barges and were frequent visitors to Lyness for a while. The Evelyn may still have been fishing as there are coils of seine net rope just aft of the winch.
