James Peace, Canadian Army

This is a photo of an Orcadian in the Canadian Army in the first world war wearing a similar uniform to that worn by John Brough in picture #24980.
He is my grand father James William Peace born at Heathfield, St.Ola. Parents Thomas Peace and Thomasina Sinclair of Linksness, Stronsay.
He is pictured with his daughter Mary while on leave possibly at Newyearfield, West Lothian

Scanned images of James Peace's attestation papers are also on the Canadian Archives site, see my comments on picture #24980 for the link.

Thanks Laura. I have the attestation papers but what I can't find is where he was in Canada after the first war and the start of the second. There is a James Peace in Thunder Bay in the 1911 Canadian census but don't know if it is him or not as he usually included his middle name on any documents.

hi ian i was very interested in your comments regarding your relative james william peace and how you got a photo of his grave in hastic cemetery in mission bc from my relative jim reid. could that be any connection with john and helen peace who stayed at whitehall farm during and after the second world war.
Added by Colin Cooper on 14 July 2013
Yes Colin. There was a connection. I visited John & Helen (m/s Smith) at Whitehall Farm one time when I was in Stronsay with the Rural Cinema in the mid 1950s. That John Peace would be a cousin of the soldier in the photo. John & Helen had two sons John & William. John married Violet Seatter but William never married. Hope this of interest to you.
