Did the Varagen sail the south isles first then ? or was it a trial run?

She was built for the Gills Bay/Burwick run, but because Burwick was not ready for the maiden voyage,Houton was used instead.

Is that a young Alan Smith i see standing in the Officers Uniform? Alan now being Captain of the Varagen for OIC Orkney Ferries.

Yes this is Alan Smith, not so young now.
