This is a photograph taken of a Stromness Primary class, I would guess sometime in the 1940's ???? My aunt, Sadie Campbell can be seen second row, extreme right, with Freddie Young standing behind her and in front of the teacher. I am sorry I have no more information about this picture but would welcome any info on it.

I think the boy on the very left of the front row looks like Jimmy Leask who used to paint for T G Muir & Son

The teacher is Ruby Brown, sister of the writer George MacKay Brown, she also taught in Rousay, in the 1930s.

With some help, I have managed to establish that the year is 1943, and names are, Back Row L-R Ronald Marwick, David Vass, ????, ????, Dorothy Cumming, Elizabeth Guthrie, Sylvia Wishart, Cathy Anderson, Ian Sinclair, Freddy Young.

Middle row L-R, ????, Cathy Firth, Alison Argo, Ann Rendall, Adeline Logie, Shirley Adam, Sadie Merriman, Irene Morrison, Sadie Campbell.
Front Row, L-R, Tommy Budge, Norman Flett, Alan Turmeau, David Watt, Stanley Spence, Frank Sinclair, Eric Scott, ????.
