Berriedale Braes hairpin

Photo taken 1970, the Berriedale Braes with the hairpin in the forefront. The scene of the bus accident on Friday May 7th 2010 which could have been fatal for all the young Orcadian athletes and adults onboard. This road is so well known to Orcadian drivers and tourists alike. I first drove south on it in 1960 and many times after. I was always glad to get by it. Added by Phil Brough.

Comments:
I've cycled up and down Berriedale a couple of times but find it a lot scarier in the car. Poor folk on the bus must have really been shocked. I hope they have managed to recover.

We used to go up those braes in the 70's with a touring caravan and a Citroen GS 1220 Palaz we always thought if we stopped we would never get going again.

Beryl, I still have a car that I fear wouldn't make it up Berriedale Braes if I stopped!!
