Landed Estate in the Mainland of Orkney

2009 - While having a clear out in the farm office today I came across this poster advertising the sale of Swannay Farm in the year 1847. It states that Swannay is 3 hours from Kirkwall by sea and that a road is formed more than half the way by land! An opportunity for someone with £7000 to £8000 to invest.

Where would the pier/jetty have been for landing the grain for the mill?

The nearest pier would have been at Aikerness in Evie, around 5 miles from Swannay.

We always heard that our gr.grandfather Magnus Mowat, b. 1827,came from Swannay Farm in Orkney. His Mother was Janet Johnston b.1795.Wonder if Magnus Johnston is related.
