I think the missing name is John Gray fron Stromness

Alan Smith is the only surviving member of the above crew.

The missing name is Captain John Gray. This picture brings back memories, I take a look at the old Hoy Head quite often. She is lying in a sorry looking state in Irvine harbour.

Does anybody have pics of this Hoy Head before she had the higher wheelhouse put on and possibly when she was a ferry from Houton to Lyness?

Yes Douglas and did you ken that your Grandad Alan Smith was the last man fae Hoy to do National Service and spent two years in the R A F Medical Corps- also he is the only man in this photo who is still alive.Yes he is a great guy your grandad.

Alan was so good with bairns on the boat never charged for the peedie nippers, his brother Jock Smith was the same awful good to us on the school bus back in the later 1950's, we thought a lot of him and it was a sad day when we heard Jock had drowned.
