1845? interesting old photo. doesn't look like a dageurrotype but could be a calotype, both in vogue at that time. Only a sight of the original would confirm. my earliest photo is a dageurrotype dated 1 January 1847, taken probably in calcutta or penang. I will post it as a matter of interest.

Photo must be from 1870s onwards as Thomas Mitchell MacGregor was born in Old Pitsligo circa 1851. (He was aged 40 at time of 1891 census when he lived at Warrenfield House, Kirkwall. By 1901 he was living in Castle Street). He was based in Palace Road in 1878 and moved to Castle Street that year and remained there until at least 1914. (information from Scottish Record Society publication 'Scottish Studio Photographers to 1914, Vol 11, 2011.)
