Dad (David Sinclair) and his cousin, Kathie Cooper (nee Katherine Sutherland) are in this school photo but maybe someone could tell me the names of the rest of the class.

Far left looks like Mary Leith

This class was a couple of years behind mine and, while most faces are familiar I can't recall many names. Perhaps if I name a few it will stimulate someone to name them all. I think I can recognise:
Pearl Cooper, Geordie White, Bill Rendall, Jimmy Porter, Oliver Tait, Miss McGuffie (Modern Languages), Ronald Smith, Agnes Johnston, Olive Merriman, and Marina Adams.
Who's going to correct and add?

What a surprise to stumble across this.! Even more impressive is Mary Leith's ability to put names to everyone. I spent only one year at the Academy, but have warm memories.

My dad was minister at Sandwick until the end of 1948, when we moved to Sutherland. In later life I came across only two people in the photo: Ivy Flett at a senior International School Camp in 1952 or 53 and Pearl Couper who recognised me in the street in Stromness in 1979 while on a visit to Orkney. How many of the group are still to the fore? (I know that Ivy died shortly after the Chernobyl accident 25 years ago.)

I apologise to the memory of Pearl and Marina for misspelling their surnames in my comment of Nov 10 2010.

Hi I'm doing a search for a friend (Elsie Higgins) to find her long lost pen friend Beatrice Muir B;1935 ... could be the girl in the photo. Can anyone help?

Is Beatrice Muir still alive?
