Kirkwall Basin

Mark Rendall in his dad's boat, prior to taking a group of us for a spin around the 'Europa'. This was in the days when liners coming in to Kirkwall Bay was very much a novelty.

I missed the infamous 'Come on, let's go to Shapinsay, it's not very foggy' trip.

Comments:
The orange hulled boat over in the corner is the Proud Seahorse which belonged to David or Albert Reid. I think it went off to Lowestoft to do survey work. You can also see the Jenny Lee berthed at the "Shapinsay Steps". It used to be a big occasion to go to Shapinsay in the Jenny Lee or the Clytus!

The Proud Seahorse is off course now back in Kirkwall again ~this time with a red hull berthed in the marina & possibly with a new superstructure, This she is avilable for charter as a pleasure boat.

The proud seahorse belonged to Davie Reid. Its been done up now and looks alot different in the inside.

Ahead of the 'Proud Seahorse' and between two vessels is the ex fishing boat 'Three Boys' which at that time was owned by Orkney Health Board and was used for ferrying the Westray doctor to Papa Westray. Uppermost and next to the pier is the passenger vessel 'Guide' and alongside her is the speed boat 'Mohr Hen'. In the middle of the basin is the motor boat 'Ena'.
