Even more derelict at 14th September, 2011. What a poor advert for Kirkwall. It is right oppsosite the Bus Station and Tourist Centre.

You are wrong there Sandy, I don't believe the visitors to Orkney expect or want to have everything titivated for them. They want it as it is, not much point in coming here otherwise if everything is a clone of the plastic tourist centre. I recall a comment from one of our esteemed councillors to the effect that ' Kirkwall must have a big new swimming pool complete with Flumes otherwise the tourists will be disappointed' if that's what the tourists want they could save themselves a lot of money by going to Blackpool instead.

Every town and city has its derelict properties, no matter how posh the place is.

Wasn't it your esteemed self Steven :-(

I can't recall who said it, but it was printed in the Orcadian, I'm sure you could take a good guess Steven

[You're winding me up Alan - I've always seen flumes as a white elephant after seeing that even Edinburgh couldn't keep them busy, to the extent they took them out of the Commonwealth Pool and only open Leith Waterworld (which is actually great) at the weekends. So not me - but I suspect I know who you mean - Steven]

OK Alan. The sight of the place offends ME, and that's far more important than what any tourist thinks. I live here. Wait till the roof blows off, and kills a tourist. Then we'll see whaar wis right.
